Iran launches retail gas-fired power plant in Ahvaz region

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 24. Distributed Generation retail gas-fired power plant with a capacity of 7.8 megawatts was put into operation in the Ahvaz region of Khuzestan province, located in the southwest of Iran, on October 23, the statement of Iran's Energy Ministry said, Trend reports.

Several officials of Iran's Khuzestan Province attended the event related to the commissioning of the power plant.

Speaking at the event, Mohammad Farati, Executive Director of Iran's Ahvaz Electricity Distribution Company, stated that retail gas-fired power plants are put into operation to increase the electric network's potential and reduce energy loss.

Farati noted that 5 MTY generators have been installed in the commissioned power plant. Each generator has a capacity of 1,562 megawatts. With each generator, five transformers with a capacity of 1,600-kilovolt amperes can transfer electricity to the power grid for consumption.

To note, Iran's electricity production potential is 93,455 megawatts. The production potential of Iran's thermal power plants is 76,257 megawatts, the production potential of hydroelectric power plants - 12,144 megawatts, the production potential of retail power plants - 2,485 megawatts, the production potential of renewable power plants - 1,300 megawatts, the production potential of the Bushehr nuclear power plant - 1,020 megawatts, and the production potential of diesel units - 408 megawatts.
