Iran's sponge iron exports go up

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 20. Iran's exports of sponge iron increased by 10 percent in value and 13 percent in weight during the eight months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through November 20, 2024) compared to the same period of last year (from March 21 through November 21, 2023).

The data obtained by Trend from the country's Steel Producers Association shows that Iran's exports of sponge iron for eight months amounted to 1.24 million tons worth $302 million.

However, Iran exported 1.09 million tons of sponge iron worth $274 million during the same period last year.

Iran's total exports of steel, iron, and related products amounted to 18.9 million tons worth $4.24 billion during the eight months. This is 13 percent less in value, but the weight was unchanged compared to the same period last year. During the same period last year, exports of steel, iron, and related products from Iran totaled 18.9 million tons worth $4.86 billion.

Meanwhile, Iran's annual production of sponge iron is more than 33 million tons.

To note, Iran's non-oil product exports amounted to about 104 million tons worth about $38.2 billion during eight months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through November 2024). Iran's exports of non-oil products increased by 18 percent in value and 14.6 percent in weight compared to the same period of last year (from March 21 through November 21, 2023).
