BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 26. The inflation rate in Iran has significantly increased in the 2nd month of the current Iranian year (from April 21 through May 21, 2025), with point-to-point inflation rising by 38.7 percent compared to the same period last year (from April 20 through May 20, 2024).
Data obtained by Trend from a recent report from Iran’s Statistical Center indicates that the price index reached 336.9 points, with inflation hitting 41.5 percent in food, beverages, and tobacco products, while non-food items and services saw inflation of 37.3 percent. Urban areas experienced inflation of 38.4 percent, slightly lower than rural areas at 40.3 percent.
The report shows that monthly inflation in the country decreased by 1.2 percent in the 2nd month compared to the 1st month (from March 21 through April 20, 2025), reaching 2.7 percent.
Monthly inflation refers to the percentage change in the price index compared to the previous month.
In the 2nd month, monthly inflation was 2.8 percent in cities and 2.1 percent in rural areas.
The report also states that by the end of the 2nd month, annual inflation (from May 21, 2024, through May 21, 2025) stood at 33.2 percent compared to the previous period (from May 21, 2023, through May 20, 2024).
Annual inflation indicates the average percentage change in the price index over the past year.
By the end of the 2nd month, annual inflation was 34 percent in Iranian cities and 33 percent in rural areas.
