BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 10. Efforts are underway to increase the volume of rail cargo transportation between Iran and Türkiye by 400,000 tons, the Director General of the Azerbaijan Railway Administration in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province, Alireza Soleimani told reporters, Trend reports.
According to him, the annual rail cargo transportation between Iran and Türkiye currently stands at 600,000 tons, and efforts are being made to increase this volume to 1 million tons per year.
Soleimani noted that Iran aims to enhance the role of rail transport in both transit and the import/export of goods with Türkiye.
The official also pointed out that the cargo transport is carried out by private companies in Iran and Türkiye's freight company.
To note, the Azerbaijan Railways Department in Iran oversees the railway services in East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan, and Ardabil provinces. The administration is responsible for approximately 1,100 km of railways, including the Tabriz-Mianeh, Tabriz-Julfa, Tabriz-Razi, and Maragheh-Urmia lines.
