BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 23. Solar power generation in Iran has risen by 38 percent in the nine months of the current Iranian year (from November 21 through December 20, 2024), compared to the same period last year (from November 22 through December 21, 2023), Trend reports via the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization of Iran (SATBA).
Over 81 million kilowatt-hours of electricity were generated by solar power plants during the nine months of the current year.
The operation of solar power stations prevented the release of more than 56,000 tons of greenhouse gases during the reporting period, which would have been emitted by fossil fuel-based power generation.
The installation of solar power stations in the country has accelerated, and the total electricity generation potential of the solar plants currently in operation exceeds 780 megawatts.
According to SATBA, the overall electricity production potential of Iran's renewable energy stations has reached 1,317 megawatts, accounting for 60 percent of the country's total renewable energy capacity.
