Egypt's transport minister resigns after death of 45 students in accident

Egyptian Transport Minister Mohammed Rashad Al-Matin resigned after an accident involving a school bus and a train, which killed at least 45 children, TV channel Al Jazeera reported.

Forty-five children, according to preliminary data, were killed and nine people were seriously injured in a train-bus collision that occurred in the Egyptian province of Assiut.

The tragedy occurred at about 8 a.m., local time. Previously it was reported about 30 killed.

According to available information, the train heading from Cairo-Aswan, collided with a bus at a railway crossing near the village Manfalut. There were 60 school children in the bus.

A special commission to investigate the causes of the tragedy and a Committee to provide urgent assistance to the families of the killed and the injured students were created under the Governor of the province.
