BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 20. ADA University has launched its first bachelor's program in animal husbandry under the Italy-Azerbaijan University initiative, Trend reports.
In this regard, a presentation has been held with the participation of representatives from leading Italian agricultural companies, local and foreign experts in the field, faculty members, and students.
Speaking at the event, Vice-Rector of ADA University Elkin Nurmammadov said that the development of animal husbandry, one of the main sectors of agriculture, is crucial for several reasons.
Among these reasons, he highlighted the impact of animal husbandry on food security, socio-economic growth of regions, and the development of Azerbaijan's non-oil sector.
He added that since Azerbaijan’s agricultural strategy envisions the application of scientific approaches and innovations in agriculture, ADA University has identified the training of local specialists who can contribute to this field as one of its goals.
"One of the key features of this program is that students will continue part of their education at ADA University’s Ganja campus. Here, they will enhance their practical knowledge in the field and gain field experience and internship opportunities through collaboration with private companies.
In order to attract students, particularly those from outside Baku, to the bachelor’s programs of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, ADA University is working with the private sector on scholarship programs," Nurmammadov added.
Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences Mateo Vittuari also delivered a speech at the presentation.
"Under the Italy-Azerbaijan University project, Italian universities and companies are collaborating with ADA University. In particular, the University of Bologna shares the latest livestock technologies and experiences from leading companies in this industry with Azerbaijani youth. Therefore, the bachelor's program in Animal Husbandry, based on international standards, will train specialists who will benefit the development of regions and provide them with the best practices," he stressed.
The presentation continued with a panel discussion on "Introducing new job opportunities in Animal Husbandry through education." The panel featured leading experts, company executives, and researchers from Azerbaijan and Italy, discussing topics such as university-industry cooperation, employment in the agricultural sector, and the role of international partnerships in the diversification of Azerbaijan's economy.
The participants met with Italian specialists, discussed agribusiness, the impact of internships on productivity, and other topics.
ADA University representatives also provided detailed information about the program’s key components, teaching methods, scholarship opportunities, and future career prospects.
To note, in 2024, ADA University, as part of the Italy-Azerbaijan University project, admitted 110 students to the Faculty of Food Sciences and Agriculture, which was jointly launched with the University of Bologna, offering degrees in Agricultural Technologies, Food Technologies, and Management (Agriculture and Food Industry).
