BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 15. Azerbaijan’s road transport sector moved 45 million tons of freight and carried 582.1 million passengers from January through April 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistical Committee indicates that this figure represents increases of 7 percent in freight and 6.6 percent in passenger transport compared to the same period of 2024.
Moreover, the sector's bus services accounted for 95.6 percent of passenger traffic, while the remaining 4.4 percent used taxis. Freight turnover grew by 8.4 percent, and passenger turnover rose by 8.6 percent.
Cargo and passenger transportation grew from January through April 2025 by 3.0 percent and 5.7 percent, respectively, compared to the same period last year. Economic entities in the transport sector moved a total of 76.1 million tons of cargo.
Of this volume, 3.9 percent was transported by sea, 7.5 percent by rail, 0.2 percent by air, 59.2 percent by road, and 29.2 percent via pipelines. The volume of cargo transported by vehicles in the non-state sector increased by 4.4 percent, with this sector accounting for 78.4 percent of the total cargo transported.
Meanwhile, transport operators provided services to 659.6 million passengers in the January-April period. Road transport carried 88.3 percent of these passengers, the metro accounted for 11.1 percent, and the remainder traveled by other modes of transport.
