BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 14. Iran has recorded a modest decline of 0.4 percent in unemployment among individuals aged 15 and above during the first three months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through June 21, 2025), compared to the same period of the previous Iranian year (from March 20 through June 20, 2024).
Data obtained by Trend from the country’s Statistical Center shows that the number of unemployed persons stood at around 1.98 million (1,981,410), representing 7.3 percent of the economically active population during this three-month period.
The data further reveals that unemployment among youth aged 15 to 24 reached around 518,000, while the figure for those aged 18 to 35 was close to 1.34 million (1,342,811).
University-educated individuals made up a significant portion of the jobless population, with more than 793,344 unemployed—marking a year-over-year decrease of 1.2 percent.
The report also notes that Iran's total population aged 15 and above was estimated at over 65.8 million (65,842,616). Of these, nearly 27.1 million (27,103,973) were considered economically active, while more than 38.7 million (38,738,643) were not engaged in economic activities.
