TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, August 20. Uzbekistan plans to nearly double uranium production to 7,200 tons by 2030 as part of efforts to expand its role in the global nuclear energy market, Trend reports via UzAtom Agency.
The country is already among the world’s top five uranium producers, ranking second in reserves within the CIS and tenth globally. At present, Uzbekistan mines uranium mainly through underground leaching, a method described as both modern and environmentally friendly. 23 deposits are currently in operation, while geological exploration continues at 10 additional promising sites.
In 2025, output is projected to reach 4,200 tons before increasing sharply over the next five years. According to UzAtom, the resource remains a vital strategic material for nuclear energy and low-carbon development. “Uzbekistan is strengthening its position as a reliable partner in the peaceful use of nuclear energy,” the agency stressed.
