BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 14. A total of 4.9 billion manat ($2.9 billion) is allocated for education in Azerbaijan every year, Deputy Minister of Science and Education of Azerbaijan Idris Isayev said at the opening ceremony of the 7th Sustainable Development Goals Dialogue on the theme "Investing in education for the sustainable development of Azerbaijan", Trend reports.

He noted that in recent years, a number of state programs, concepts, and strategies have been implemented in the field of education.

The main direction of these documents is to improve the quality of education, ensure its accessibility, form an educational environment in accordance with international standards, and consistently implement educational reforms.

The deputy minister emphasized that the largest investments in education are mainly carried out by the state.

"When we look at world experience, we see that on average, about 85 percent of educational investments fall on the state, and 15 percent on the private sector. However, this indicator varies depending on the countries and levels of education.

In Azerbaijan, this ratio is slightly different; that is, about 95 percent of investments in the education sector are covered by the state budget, and only five percent by the private sector. Our state annually directs about five billion manat from the state budget to the education sector, making up about 3.8 percent of the gross domestic product," he added.
