BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 17. In August 2025, Slovenia saw a slight decline in the total number of persons in employment, down 0.2 percent month-on-month to around 938,200, Trend reports citing the country's Statistical Office.
While the number of employees decreased, the number of self-employed persons rose slightly.
The largest employment drop was recorded in the manufacturing sector, with a 0.2 percent monthly decline and a 1.8 percent decrease compared to August 2024. Employment fell in more than half of activity sectors, while the largest gains were seen in human health and social work activities, up 0.2 percent month-on-month and 3.5 percent year-on-year.
Breaking down by type of employment, employees on fixed-term contracts decreased by 1.0 percent to about 140,400, while those on permanent contracts fell by around 200 to 692,200. Men’s employment dropped by 0.2 percent month-on-month, matching the 0.2 percent decrease among women.
The number of Slovenian citizens in employment decreased slightly by just over 1,100, while foreign citizens also saw a small drop of about 300. Compared to last year, foreign citizens in employment increased by 1.9 percent, while Slovenian citizens decreased by 0.7 percent. Overall, 12 sectors reported monthly employment declines, six saw increases, and two remained unchanged.
