If the EU reduces import of Russian oil in favor of other suppliers, Kazakhstan may try to use the opportunity, Russian expert on the Caspian region Igor Ivakhnenko said.
"The choice of the route in this case is not as important," he said in an exclusive interview with Trend.
He said the most cost-effective route for the export of Caspian raw materials is the Baku-Supsa pipeline.
Ivakhnenko said if Kazakhstan manages to get access to that route, it will greatly enhance its oil export profitability.
He said Baku and Astana could consider a package deal for oil transit, which would include the use of routes, which would be useful for both Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
It was previously reported that Kazakhstan worked out options of oil export alternative to the Russian direction, including the transport of oil through the sea port of Aktau and the Caspian Sea.
