Makhachkala Sea Commercial Port in Russia’s Republic of Dagestan renewed transshipment of oil products from Turkmenistan after a five-year break, Trend reports referring to Russian media.
The port management is going to increase annual transshipment volumes from Turkmenistan to 100,000 tons. The first Baltflot-15 oil tanker with more than 6,000 tons of diesel fuel arrived to the port, said Neftegaz.ru publication.
At the port, the fuel will be loaded into rail tanks and sent to customers.
In 2014, transshipment stopped due to the problems with opening a temporary storage warehouse, the absence of which prevented the transshipment of bulk cargo.
The Makhachkala Sea Commercial Port is going to transport not less than 1.5 million tons of Turkmen oil.
Raw materials are transported by tankers to Makhachkala, where they are then pumped into reservoirs and sent to customers via Transneft trunk pipelines. These deliveries are carried out by Vitol, a trader who purchases volumes of Turkmen oil from the Cheleken field operated by Dragon Oil (UAE) and from Okarem field operated by from Eni (Italy).
The oil production at Cheleken is about 2.4 million tons per year, at Okarem - about 300,000 tons per year.
