BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 28. Azerbaijan's payment card turnover via ATMs and POS terminals increased by 3.3 billion manat ($1.9 billion), or 42.6 percent, in September 2024, from 7.8 billion manat ($4.59 billion) to 11.1 billion manat ($6.5 billion).
Data obtained by Trend from the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) shows that the total number of payment card transactions amounted to 170.47 million (up by 59.33 percent over the year), including 5.2 million transactions worth 265 million manat ($155.88 million) carried out abroad.
The number of debit card transactions (both inside and outside the country) amounted to 157.17 million for 10.3 billion manat ($6 billion), of which 14.4 million transactions worth 3.4 billion manat ($2 billion) were made through ATMs inside the country and 47.45 million transactions worth 847 million manat ($497.7 million) were made through POS terminals inside the country.
Bank customers conducted 13.3 million credit card transactions, both domestically and internationally, with a total value of 799 million manats ($470 million).
In the meantime, POS terminals processed over 6.27 billion transactions worth 182 million manat ($107 million), and ATMs processed 473,000 transactions worth 128 million manat ($75.29 million).
As of October 1, 2024, the number of payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by almost 2.98 million, or 18.72 percent, compared to the same period last year, reaching 18.9 million, up from almost 15.9 million a year earlier.
