Azerbaijan significantly boosts payment card turnover

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 27. Azerbaijan's payment card turnover through ATMs and POS terminals increased by 2.7 billion manat ($1.5 billion), or 31.36 percent, from 8.8 billion to 11.5 billion manat ($6.7 billion) in October 2024.

Data obtained by Trend from the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) indicates that the total number of payment card transactions amounted to 184.3 million (up 52.65 percent over the year), including 5.8 million transactions worth 271 million manat ($159.4 million) carried out abroad.

The number of debit card transactions (both inside and outside the country) amounted to 170.3 million, or 10.7 billion manat ($6.2 billion), of which 14.9 million transactions worth 3.4 billion manat ($2 billion) were made through ATMs inside the country and 51.3 million transactions worth 898 million manat ($528.2 million) were made through POS terminals inside the country.

Through credit cards (both inside and outside the country), bank customers made 13.9 million transactions totaling 822 million manat ($483.5 million).

Meanwhile, 468,000 transactions worth 127 million manat ($74.7 million) were made through ATMs inside the country, and 6.5 billion transactions worth 192 million manat ($112.9 million) were made through POS terminals.

To note, the number of payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by 2.95 million, or 18.21 percent, as of November 1, 2024, compared to the same period last year and reached 19.1 million against 16.2 million a year earlier.
