Chinese company intends to construct toll roads in Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, March 28. Representatives of CITIC Construction Company (China) expressed interest in the construction of new toll roads in Uzbekistan, Trend reports.

According to Uzbekistan's Ministry of Transport, this was announced at a meeting between Uzbek Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov and representatives of CITIC Construction Company on March 27 to discuss projects on the construction and reconstruction of highways.

The company expressed interest in participating in the reconstruction of the Pungan-Namangan and Tashkent-Chinaz highways. They emphasized their international experience in improving transport infrastructure and using modern solutions in road construction.

Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport noted the importance of completing these projects as soon as possible, using advanced technologies that meet international standards, and paying special attention to reducing construction costs.

The representatives of the foreign company said that they are currently studying the projects and will submit project proposals meeting all requirements in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan will introduce a road toll on trucks and cargo trailers with a load capacity of over 10 tons starting in April 2024.

As per data provided by Uzbekistan’s State Tax Committee, the volume of fees will depend on the load capacity, with the maximum amount standing at 3.4 million soums ($276).
