By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Six countries are negotiating to sell airplanes to Iran.
Maghsood Asadi-Samani, secretary of the Iranian airlines association, said managing directors of airplane manufacturers from six countries have traveled to Iran, Mehr news agency reported on Oct. 28.
Managers of airplane manufacturers from Japan, China, France, Brazil, Canada, and Russia have held talks with Iranian officials, he said, adding that negotiations with Brazilians are still continuing.
However, no contracts have been signed yet for buying airplanes, he noted.
Iran is targeting purchases of 500 new commercial aircraft by 2025, some of which will enter the country before 2016, Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi said Oct. 1.
"Negotiations with the world's first class companies for purchase of aircraft have begun," he said.
"Upon the execution of the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action with world powers on Iran's nuclear program), we will take the first step in supplying aircraft so that by 2016, some of them will enter the country and the people will soon witness flying and travel with new and safe airplanes," he added.
