The Joint Commission monitoring the implementation of a nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers has authorized Iran to import 130 tons of uranium, Behrouz Kamalvandi, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran spokesman told IRIB news agency January 13.
He said the commission made the decision during a meeting in the Austrian capital of Vienna on January 11.
Kamalvandi said that Iran had previously bought 220 tons of the material, and was currently in possession of a total of 350 tons, “which will put us in good footing.”
“But of course to become industrial we need more resources. That is why we have given high priority to exploration (of uranium) inside the country.”
The nuclear deal limits Iran’s ability to enrich uranium in exchange for the lifting of some international economic sanctions. It allows Iran to conduct peaceful nuclear research.
