First Vice-President of Iran Eshaq Jahangiri has described the country’s villages and nomadic groups as the main hub for the production of handicrafts in the country.
Eshaq Jahangiri added that the country also enjoys high capabilities in the production of carpets which can greatly contribute to domestic production, job creation, and exports, Trend correspondent reported.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of an exhibition on the capabilities of villagers and nomads, the vice-president touched upon agriculture and described it as a major sub-sector of the economy in Iran which is capable of creating a high amount of jobs and boosting exports.
The value of exports of Iranian handicraft and hand-made carpets over the first ten months of the current fiscal year (starting March 20) reached $377 million, 18 percent more year-on-year.
Iran’s agricultural exports amounted to $4.005 billion during the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 3.4 percent less year-on-year.
The country exported 4.198 million tons of agricultural products during the period, which is 2.4 percent less compared to the same period of the preceding year, according to the data released by Iran’s Agriculture Ministry.
Agricultural products had 12.7 percent share in Iran’s overall exports in the 9-month period in terms of value and 4.7 percent in terms of volume.
