The condition of Iran’s civil aviation industry is worse than Afghanistan and Iraq due to the new US sanctions, Iran Air Managing Director Farzaneh Sharafbafi said.
“The condition of civil aviation industry in Iraq, Afghanistan and other neighboring countries is better than Iran’s,” Sharafbafi told the Tasnim news agency.
She mentioned impending US sanctions as the main reason for the current situation as the country is having problems to purchase simple aircraft components and renovate it aging fleet.
Sharafbafi also said that Iranian planes would face difficulties in their foreign trips as they are expected to be refused fuel at some foreign airports due to the sanctions.
We should soon send cash in suitcases and receive fuel instead, she added.
US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington was walking away from the nuclear agreement, which was reached between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - the US, Britain, France, Russia and China - plus Germany.
Trump also said he would reinstate US nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose "the highest level" of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.
The US sanctions have a 180-day period during which buyers should “wind down” purchases.
