Taking into account the recent precipitation, Iran cannot be optimistic about the improvement of electricity supply by enhancing the Hydro Power Stations (HPS) and that's because Iran still has drought-oriented programs, ISNA reported citing Mahmoud Reza Haqqi-Fam, spokesman of Iran’s Power Generation, Distribution and Transmission Company (Tavanir).
According to him, it is necessary to wait for the winter for rainfall to have a positive impact on the Hydro Power Stations.
If water reserves in the country's watercourses increase, we will definitely increase production, he added.
"The policy of the Ministry of Energy on HPSs is based on drought oriented programs. There is no optimism for the current situation. During peak periods HPSs generate 4000-5000 megawatts of electricity," Haqqi-Fam said.
"At that time we can use the same amount of electricity. But if the rainfall is sufficient and the water level in the water reservoirs increases, we can increase the production volumes," he added.
