Iran announces nation's planned rice harvest

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 28. The harvest of rice paddy in Iran is expected to reach 4.7 million tons and the harvest of rice over 2.7 million tons in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025) Sohrab Sohrabi from the country's Ministry of Agriculture told reporters, Trend reports.

He said that the rice harvest is anticipated to increase by 200,000 tons compared to last year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024).

Sohrabi pointed out that a total of 750,000 hectares of rice have been planted.

As the official explained, 70 percent of the rice area is located in three provinces - Gilan, Mazandaran and Golestan. 93 percent of rice harvesting is done using machinery, and seven percent is done by hand.

He added that 72 percent of rice sowing in the country is done using machinery, and 28 percent is done manually.

To note, Iran cultivates, on average, more than 130 million tons of agricultural products per year.

The total area of agricultural land in Iran is more than 12 million hectares.
