BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 31. An agreement has been reached on the trial operation of a passenger train between Iran and Turkmenistan, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh told reporters, Trend reports.

According to her, a study will be conducted by experts regarding the start of the trial operation. An agreement will be reached on this at the meeting of the Iran-Turkmenistan Interstate Joint Economic Commission to be held in Tehran later.

Sadegh said that the passenger train will travel from the Iranian city of Mashhad to Sarakhs and the city of Mary in Turkmenistan and may later travel to Uzbekistan via Turkmenistan.

She expressed hope that the meeting of the joint economic commission between the two countries will further strengthen relations between neighboring countries and Central Asian countries.

To note, the Iranian minister visited Turkmenistan on March 28-29.

Iran and Turkmenistan have set a short-term goal of increasing transit and freight transportation by rail between Iran and Turkmenistan to 10 million tons by the end of 2027.
