BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 8. Iran's unemployment rate for individuals aged 15 and older dropped by 0.8 percent in the winter season (from December 21, 2024, through March 20, 2025) compared to the same period last year (from December 22, 2023, through March 19, 2024).
Data obtained by Trend from the Statistical Center of Iran indicates that the number of unemployed individuals stood at over 2 million (2,045,806), accounting for 7.8 percent of the active workforce during the reporting period.
The unemployment rate among young people aged 15 to 24 was about 542,000 (541,800), while the number for those aged 18 to 35 was around 1.36 million (1,355,602).
In terms of education, around 796,000 individuals (795,513) with higher education were unemployed, showing a slight 0.2 percent decrease from the previous year.
The total population aged 15 and older during this period was roughly 65.6 million (65,628,506), with around 39 million (39,287,267) classified as economically inactive and approximately 26.3 million (26,341,239) as part of the active labor force.
