BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 14. The turnover of retail trade in Azerbaijan grew by 3.3 percent from January through May 2024 compared to the same period in 2023 and reached 21.5 billion manat ($12.6 billion), Trend reports.

The turnover of food, beverages, and tobacco products increased by 1.8 percent (to 12.1 billion manat ($7.1 billion)) and non-food products by 5.2 percent (to 9.4 billion manat ($5.5 billion)).

According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, during the reporting period of 2024, the population spent 51.4 percent on food products, 4.9 percent on beverages and tobacco products, 13.1 percent on textiles, clothing, and footwear, 5.8 percent on motor fuel, 4.5 percent on electrical goods and furniture, 2.4 percent on pharmaceutical goods and medicines, 1.3 percent on computers, and 16.6 percent on other non-food products.

Meanwhile, in the reporting period, the value of goods sold by economic entities in the non-state sector increased by 3.3 percent compared to the figure for 2023 and accounted for 99.7 percent of the total retail trade turnover.

The average monthly turnover of retail trade in Azerbaijan per capita amounted to 421.3 manat ($247.7), including the turnover of food, beverages, and tobacco products - 237.1 manat ($139.4) and non-food products - 184.2 manat ($108.3).

To note, retail trade turnover in Azerbaijan increased by 3.7 percent in 2023 compared to the same period in 2022 and reached 58.9 billion manat ($34.6 billion). The turnover of food, beverages, and tobacco products increased by 2.5 percent (to 33 billion manat ($19.4 billion)) and non-food products by 5.2 percent (to 26 billion manat ($15.2 billion)).
