ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 12. During his working visit to the United States, KazMunayGas Chairman Askhat Khassenov met with Jimmy Samartzis, CEO of U.S.-based LanzaJet, to discuss the development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production in Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
Khassenov emphasized the importance of the partnership with LanzaJet, noting the significant potential for advancing sustainable energy solutions through low-carbon fuel production technologies. He thanked Samartzis for LanzaJet's interest in establishing an eco-friendly aviation fuel plant in Kazakhstan, and both parties agreed to expedite the feasibility study for the project.
The project is expected to help Kazakhstan reduce emissions by 15% by 2031, contribute to low-carbon development, and enhance the biofuel market and Kazakhstan's transit potential.
LanzaJet, known for its "alcohol-to-jet" SAF production technology, has long-term supply agreements with major airlines and uses ethanol from various feedstocks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 95%.
