TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, July 18. Uzbekistan’s total money supply has reached a historic high, surpassing 312.5 trillion soms ($24.6 billion) as of July 1.
The data obtained by Trend from the country's Central Bank indicates that this marks the largest money supply ever recorded in the country’s economic history. The surge follows a recent milestone in May when the money supply first exceeded 300 trillion soms ($23.6 billion).
In June alone, Uzbekistan’s money supply expanded by 12.3 trillion soms ($962.5 million), pushing the annual growth to 76 trillion soms ($5.9 billion). The Central Bank highlighted that the majority of this increase came from the national currency supply, which rose by 10.6 trillion soms ($829.5 million) to reach 250 trillion soms ($19.6 billion) by the end of the month.
Cash in circulation also saw a notable rise, growing by 3.9 trillion soms ($305.2 million) in June to total 59.1 trillion soms ($4.6 billion).
Since the Central Bank began publishing money supply data in February 2013—when the total stood at 24.4 trillion soms ($1.9 billion)—the figure has grown more than twelvefold. It crossed 100 trillion soms ($7.9 billion) in June 2020 and surpassed 200 trillion soms ($15.7 billion) in November 2023.
