BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 21. Iran has commissioned small-scale thermal power plants (TPPs) with a total capacity of 209 megawatts since the current government came to power (August 2024), Zahra Ismayilzadeh, an official from Iran’s TAVANIR Company, told reporters, Trend reports.
According to Ismayilzadeh, these power plants have been built across 32 locations in 15 provinces of the country.
She added that the commissioning of these plants involved an investment of $85 million, demonstrating the private sector’s growing interest in such projects.
The company official also emphasized that the country is focusing on commissioning new small-scale thermal power plants with a capacity of 200 megawatts annually.
Iran’s electricity supply comes from thermal power plants, a nuclear power plant, solar and wind power plants, and hydroelectric power plants. Thermal power plants currently account for more than 77,000 megawatts of the country’s total electricity generation.
