TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, August 7. As of August 1, Uzbekistan’s official foreign exchange reserves reached $48.74 billion, marking an increase of $193.7 million (0.4 percent) compared to July, Trend reports, citing the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.
The expansion was predominantly propelled by an escalation in
the market capitalization of gold assets retained in reserves,
which surged by $265 million, achieving an unprecedented peak of
$38.68 billion. Significantly, the tangible inventory of gold has
stabilized at 11.7 million troy ounces, with the uptick ascribed to
advantageous fluctuations in international gold valuations.
In contrast, the foreign exchange reserves experienced a decrement
of $366.3 million, resulting in a total of $8.48 billion. Out of
this total, $1.05 billion is allocated within the financial
ecosystems of foreign central banking institutions and the
International Monetary Fund, whereas $7.42 billion is strategically
positioned in the portfolios of foreign commercial banking
entities.
Moreover, the Central Bank markedly augmented its portfolio
allocation in securities, experiencing an uptick exceeding $300
million (42.7 percent), culminating in a total valuation of $1.01
billion. This development elevated the proportion of equities and
fixed-income securities within Uzbekistan’s reserve architecture to
surpass 2 percent for the inaugural instance.
