BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 23. Total demand for natural gas and exports handled by Enagás reached 267.6 TWh in the first nine months of 2025, marking a 6.6% increase compared to the same period in 2024, the company said, Trend reports.
In Spain, gas demand rose 5.6%, largely driven by a 36.8% increase in gas consumption for electricity generation.
The boost reflects the conversion of the Aboño thermal power plant from coal to natural gas in July, a move that also contributed to reducing CO₂ emissions. Meanwhile, conventional gas demand declined by 3.3%, with industrial consumption falling 6.1%.
Exports grew 14.1% year-on-year, led by a 49.6% increase in shipments to France. The higher volumes were driven by the French system’s need to replenish underground storage, maintenance at regasification terminals, and a nationwide strike in September.
