BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 23. Global natural gas consumption is expected to rise by 1.6% in 2025, according to the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), as slower industrial demand offsets gains in power and residential sectors, Trend reports.
In Europe, gas consumption increased 2.1% year-on-year in September to 19 billion cubic meters (bcm), driven primarily by higher use in electricity generation and residential heating. In contrast, U.S. gas demand fell 0.7% y-o-y to 67.4 bcm, reflecting lower consumption from power plants.
China saw gas demand grow 4.2% y-o-y in August to 37.8 bcm, but growth over the first eight months of the year was only 0.8% y-o-y.
The slowdown is attributed to weaker industrial demand, particularly from ceramics and glass producers, amid broader economic challenges, including trade tensions and a struggling real estate sector.
