Uzbekistan plans to start in 2015 the production of nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium fertilizers (NPK fertilizers) at the Samarkand chemical plant, the Samarkandkimyo, a source of the Uzbek state joint stock company, Uzhimprom told Trend Feb. 24.
The source said the Uzhimprom signed a contract with the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) for construction of the enterprise's 'turnkey' technological part on the Samarkand chemical plant's basis.
The production capacity will be 240,000 metric tons of NPK fertilizers per year.
The project's cost is $20 million, and it is financed from the funds of the Uzhimprom and direct investment of the CMEC.
NPK fertilizers enjoy higher demand in the domestic and foreign markets due to their efficiency, high agrochemical effectiveness through the simultaneous introduction of essential nutrients in the soil.
As reported earlier, it is also scheduled to commission the second stage of the Dehkanabad potash fertilizer plant in 2015.
The construction of the second stage of the Dehkanabad plant, worth $254.5 million, envisages increasing its capacity three times up to 600,000 metric tons of potash fertilizers per year.
The Dehkanabad potash fertilizer plant, with a capacity of 200,000 metric tons per year, was put into operation in 2010.
