The chain stores of the Baltic countries in 2019 took the initiative in importing persimmons from Azerbaijan, and the Azerbaijani Persimmon Producers and Exporters Association is currently working to establish exports to these countries, Head of the association Gadir Yusifov told Trend.
“The products are planned to be exported to Slovakia, the Czech Republic some European countries in 2020,” Yusifov added. “Presently, the products are exported to Moldova, Belarus, Kazakhstan.”
Yusifov added that 20,367 tons of persimmons were sold on the country’s domestic market in 2019.
"Some EU countries require preparation of the necessary certification that meets their standards to import persimmons,” head of the association said. “We have taken appropriate measures in this sphere."
“The representatives of the association periodically visit the districts where persimmons are grown to conduct training on the observance of the necessary standards to obtain a high-quality product,” Yusifov added.
"About $10,000 is allocated annually for the development of the association," Yusifov said.
The head of the association reminded that persimmons are grown in 21 Azerbaijani districts, mainly in Goychay, Agdash, Balakan, Zagatala. Constant communication is maintained with the association members from these districts.
The Azerbaijani Persimmon Producers and Exporters Association was created in August 2017 on the initiative of entrepreneurs and with the support of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economy.
The main objectives of the association are to increase the production of competitive and export-oriented products, as well as to expand the export of persimmons.
