Oil production in Kazakhstan amounted to 81.7 million tons in 2013 which is 3.2 percent more than in 2012, Kazakh Oil and Gas Minister Uzakbai Karabalin said on Jan.16 at the 15th meeting of the KAZENERGY Association Council.
It is planned to increase the oil production in the country up to 83 million tons in 2014, according to the minister.
The minister pointed out that the plans for oil production also include the functioning of the Kashagan field.
Not specifying the exact production at Kashagan, Karabalin said that theoretically, it is planned to produce nearly two million tons of oil from this field.
The minister said that according to forecasts, after 2020 around two million barrels of oil will be produced in Kazakhstan per day.
Karabalin stressed that oil production in Kazakhstan has increased threefold to 1.6 million barrels per day and gas production fivefold to 40 billion cubic meters per year.
"It is very important that in the forecasts to 2035, the role of oil, gas and coal remains the weightiest in the world's energy resources structure. One of the basic elements of the implementation of the strategic tasks in Kazakhstan is the energy industry. During the years of independence we have entered the top 15 largest holders of proven oil reserves and the top 20 largest countries for gas reserves, " Karabalin said.
