Iran discloses cargo handling volumes at its ports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 23. About 195 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Iran's ports during the 10 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through January 19, 2025).

The data obtained by Trend from the country's Ports and Maritime Organization shows that during 10 months, the volume of shipped cargo amounted to about 107 million tons and the volume of unloaded cargo 87.9 million tons.

The information says 87.9 million tons of crude oil and oil products were loaded and unloaded in Iranian-owned ports during the 10 months. About 107 million tons of non-oil products were loaded and unloaded during the mentioned period.

According to the information, about 2.7 million TEU containers were loaded and unloaded at the ports during the mentioned period. This means an increase of 13 percent compared to the same period last year (from March 21, 2023 through 20 March 2024).

The current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of ports to 500 million tons.

To note, during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), about 237 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Iranian-owned ports. Last year, loading and unloading at Iranian ports increased by 10 percent compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 2022-20, 2023).
