Iran will complete installing 40 new wind turbines in northern Manjil city by the end of the current calendar month (October 22).
Yousef Armoudeli, managing director of Renewable Energies Organization of Iran, said that once the turbines are installed, Manjil site will be able to work with full capacity, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported on October 5.
According to Armoudeli, Manjil site's electricity generation capacity is projected to reach 100 megawatt.
Based on the Fifth Five-year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2011-2015), Iran's private sector is expected to carry out a number of renewable projects with the total capacity to generate 10,000 megawatt of electricity.
Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian said on April 29 that government will buy renewable energy at price of 443 rials from the private sector.
Iran's IRIB News Agency reported that Iran's total renewable energy production capacity stands at 200 megawatt. It is while according to Chitchian, wind energy accounts for 100 megawatt of the mentioned period.
"The world's total wind energy generation capacity is around 283,000 megawatt," Iranian minister said.
Iran's power generation capacity is currently over 71 gigawatts.
The country currently trades power with Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq.
Iran seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity and has attracted more than $1.1 billion in investments for the construction of three new power plants.
