Tajik Ambassador to Tehran Nematollah Emamzadeh said the US sanctions against Iran would not be able to curb the export of Iranian goods to other countries, particularly those in the region.
“Many of Iranian products and goods have high quality and the sanctions would not be able to curb their exports to other countries,” Emamzadeh told IRNA news agency on July 26.
He added that Iranian goods have their own customers everywhere there is not much of concern about their future sale.
US President Donald Trump withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal in May, and Washington now plans to reimpose sanctions on Tehran next month. The first round of US sanctions on Iran goes into effect in August, followed by ones targeting Iran's oil exports in November.
Referring to old-age relations between Tehran and Dushanbe, he said, “Expansion of economic ties between the two countries is top of the agenda.
He added that Iran and Tajikistan should work together to boost their tourism industries as both of them have numerous cultural and religious commonalities.
Emamzadeh concluded that the export of Persian rugs will be never halted, and that Tajikistan will enhance its cooperation with Iran to produce rugs.
Recently, the Office of Foreign Assets Control, a division of the US Treasury Department, said on its website that US rug dealers must wind down their Iranian imports by Aug. 6. They will not be allowed to import Iranian-made rugs from other countries either, even if those rugs have been out of Iran for decades. Dealers will still be permitted to sell Persian rugs that are already in the United States.
