Loading and unloading of crude oil and petroleum products in Iranian ports increased by 20.5 percent from April 20 through May 20, 2024, compared to the same period last year (April 21 through May 21, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization says, Trend reports
According to the statistics, a total of 4.77 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products were loaded and unloaded in Iranian ports from April 20 through May 20 this year. About 2.78 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products were shipped and 1.99 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products were unloaded. The loaded products increased by 18.2 percent compared to the same month last year, while the unloaded products increased by 24 percent.
In the reporting period, Iranian ports handled a total of 13.7 million tons of products, according to statistical data. A cumulative quantity of 7.78 million tons of goods were loaded onto vessels, while 5.9 million tons were discharged. The amount of both loaded and unloaded merchandise in Iranian ports experienced a 4.8 percent increase in comparison to the corresponding time of the previous year.
The period specified this year saw 2.14 million tons of critical products loaded and discharged. About 243,000 tons were loaded, and 1.9 million were unloaded.
April 20–May 20, 2024, saw 825,000 tons of steel products loaded and unloaded. There were 659,000 tons loaded and 166,000 unloaded.
Based on statistics, about 3.15 million tons of construction materials and mining products were loaded and unloaded in the above period. Of them, 2.95 million tons were loaded and about 201,000 tons were unloaded.
The reporting period saw 71,800 tons of equipment, vehicles, and spare parts loaded and unloaded in Iranian ports. These included 10,400 tons transported and 61,300 tons unloaded.
Based on statistics, 415,000 tons of chemicals were loaded and unloaded in the reporting period. Of which, 340,000 tons were loaded and 74,800 tons were unloaded. About 84,600 tons of leather, garments, fibers, paper, and wood materials were loaded and unloaded in the reporting period. Of these, 1,290 tons were loaded, and 83,300 tons of products were unloaded.
Statistics indicate that 57,700 tons of small and other miscellaneous products were loaded and unloaded during the said month. Of these, 18,700 tons refer to loaded products, while 39,000 tons were unloaded.
"Nearly 2.17 million tons of containerized products were loaded and unloaded in the reporting period. Of them, 781,000 tons were loaded and about 1.39 million tons were unloaded," the statistics say.
Iranian ports exported 6.86 million tons and imported 3.54 million tons during the reporting period. In the month, Iranian ports transited 703,000 tons of goods and unloaded 505,000 tons.
According to the figures, there were 147,000 tons of products loaded for the purpose of sabotage, whereas 1.63 million tons of merchandise were unloaded. In addition, a total of 67,800,000 tons of products were loaded for transshipment, while 121,000 tons of products were unloaded. A total of 10,000 tons of merchandise were loaded, while 113,000 tons of products were emptied for alternative uses.
To note, the current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of ports by 500 million tons.
