The signing of the agreement in principle on the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM) construction project was postponed, a source in Azerbaijan's telecommunications market told Trend on May 27.
The need to finalize the draft agreement and to coordinate its details with all the parties have been the reason for postponing the signing, according to source said.
The document is designed to define the project's business model, as well as the way of conducting the traffic management, distribution of investments and incomes. Earlier, it was planned to sign the document in mid-2014.
The agreement is likely will be signed by late 2014, according to preliminary data.
The agreement in principle is also supposed to settle the issue of laying the Caspian segment of the cable line, which is a part of the TASIM project.
At present, the TASIM project includes such countries as Russia (Rostelecom), Kazakhstan (KazTransCom), Turkey (TurkTelecom), China (China Telecom), and Azerbaijan (represented by the Center for International Relations and Calculations of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies).
The project aims at reducing poverty and accelerating the economic growth. It can also play a leading role in the region's development.
The TASIM project is designed to connect 20 countries, and its realization will help to address the information gap between Western Europe and the Pacific Basin.
