ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 13. The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Terminals Astana Airport Limited (part of Terminals Holding, UAE) have signed a long-term investment agreement worth $1.1 billion to comprehensively develop the airport and its surrounding area, Trend reports
According to the information, under the terms of the agreement, the investor will build a second runway, a third passenger terminal, and a cargo terminal designed for freight handling. The investor also plans to develop an aerotropolis—a multifunctional complex that includes an industrial-logistics zone and a business cluster with hotels, retail spaces, and logistics terminals.
“The investor will ensure the modernization of the special equipment fleet, implement digital solutions and automation systems, and conduct phased training and upskilling of airport staff. All employees will undergo certified training programs that meet international aviation standards,” the statement said.
Another memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan and the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure regarding cooperation in road transport. The two parties intend to promote the exchange of technical knowledge, skills, and best practices. A bilateral intergovernmental agreement is expected to be signed soon, which will regulate issues related to international road transport between Kazakhstan and the UAE.
In total, Kazakhstan has signed 42 intergovernmental agreements for international road transportation.
