ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 29. Two new electric trains will be launched on the railway line in Kazakhstan in the near future, said Zhanibek Tayzhanov, Chairman of the Committee for Railway and Water Transport of the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan, during a briefing at the SCK site, Trend reports.
According to him, come July 2025, a brand-new high-speed electric train, boasting around 567 seats, will be chugging along the tracks between Karaganda and Astana. Come this fall, a shiny new electric train, boasting a capacity for 360 passengers, will hit the tracks on the Astana-Borovoe route, making the journey in a swift 2.5 hours.
“The specialized agency continues its annual and systematic work to renew the fleet of passenger cars. This year, the purchase of 226 new cars is expected. Whereas previously about 150-180 cars were purchased annually, starting this year and until 2029, the fleet will be replenished with more than 200 cars annually. This will allow the fleet of cars to be almost completely renewed by 2029. Also, from this year, the Stadler Kazakhstan plant has started assembling cars,” noted the ministry.
By the end of last year, railway transport carried 20.8 million passengers, an increase of six percent. This year, it is planned to transport 22 million passengers, including 7 million passengers during the summer period.
