BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 1. Azerbaijan earned $98.6 million from cottonseed oil exports from January through June 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the July edition of the “Export Review” released by the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAECR) indicates that this figure represents a decline of $18.2 million, or 15.6 percent, compared to the same period last year ($116.8 million).
Azerbaijan’s non-oil sector exports grew by 9.9 percent from January through June 2025, compared to the same period in 2024, reaching $1.8 billion.
Azerbaijan's cotton exports are relatively recent, with a significant increase in the 21st century. While cotton has a long history in the region, dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries AD, the modern export of cotton fiber to Turkmenistan began in May 2023. Historically, cotton from Shamakhi was exported to Russia in the 15th century. More recently, Azerbaijan has been focused on developing its cotton industry and increasing exports of cotton fiber and yarn.
