The Uzbek Road Fund has announced a tender to reconstruct the section of the Husar-Bukhara-Nukus-Beineu (A-380) road with a starting price of $ 80 million, the fund said today.
The tender was announced to reconstruct a 40-kilometer section of road (315-355 km) with the replacement of two-lane asphalt pavement with a four-lane cement concrete pavement.
It was previously reported that tender was preliminary announced in May 2012. The tender results were planned to be summarized in September 2012.
The tender was not held in a timely manner. No comments were made.
The bids for the repeated tender are received till January 17, 2013. Its results will be summed up in March next year.
The reconstruction of this section of the national highway will be financed through the funds of a multitranche financing program of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to the amount of $ 1.1 billion.
It was previously reported that ADB approved providing the Uzbek government with a multitranche financing package to the amount of $ 600 million for the construction of a national highway in April 2010.
Up to now, three tranches were allocated within this program - $115 million, $240 million and $100 million.
ADB provided Uzbekistan with a second package to the amount of $500 million in September 2011 to build a national highway within the program of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC). A tranche worth $ 130 million has been allocated from it.
ADB funds were directed to reconstruct individual sections of the road "Husar-Bukhara-Nukus-Beineu" (A-380) and "Tashkent-Andijan" (A-373) with a total length of 450 kilometers.
The Uzbek side signed the contracts with the German GP Papenburg, Korean Kuk Dong Corporation, and a consortium led by the Spanish Corviam Construccion worth about $ 380 million for the reconstruction of individual sections of a highway with a total length of 193 kilometers within the funds allocated by ADB in 2010-2012.
The national highway construction program of the first category worth $3.44 billion was approved by the Uzbek President in May 2009.
In total, it is planned to construct and reconstruct roads with a total length of 1,500 kilometers within the program by 2015.
National highway will run from north-west to south-eastern border of the country, and will connect the largest cities of the country.
The program is planned to be financed at the expense of the government to the amount of $1.68 billion, a credit line of the Chinese government for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member-states, ADB loans and other international financial institutions.
Currently, the total length of roads in Uzbekistan is 146,400 kilometers. Around 42,500 kilometers fall to main public roads, including 3,200 kilometers - international highway and 18,800 kilometers - state highway. Around 20 international transport routes and destinations pass through the Uzbek territory.
