Azerbaijan's Caspian Sea Shipping Company plans to commission a large floating dock before late autumn 2014, which will make it possible to conduct repairs of the company's vessels.
According to the company's website, this will be the largest floating dock in the Caspian Sea, and it is a significant innovation in the dock repair of the vessels.
The company said the dock is being built under a contract with the Russian Ship Repair and Shipbuilding Corporation JSC. The dock's elements were installed by the Russian specialists at the Zikh ship repair yard in Baku.
"The dock's construction has been completed. Now the dock needs to be taken to its permanent deployment place and tested. It is expected that the dock will be commissioned in November this year," the company said.
The shipping company added that the dock's foundation was laid in Jan. 2012 in Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod. The first unit was launched in November of the same year.
The carrying capacity of the first floating dock is 8,000 metric tons, its length is 158 meters, width - 36.85 meters, and it is 13.35 meters high.
Azerbaijan's Caspian Shipping Company, along with a transport fleet, also includes a specialized fleet and shipyards.
The company says its transport fleet consists of 100 vessels, including 33 tankers, 13 ferries, 14 universal bulk carriers, 2 Ro-Ro vessels, as well as technical and support vessels.
The specialized fleet has 184 vessels, including 23 tugboats and supply vessels, 15 - crane, 2 - diving, 2 pipe-laying vessels, 5 - engineering- geological, 2 passenger ships and many other ships of small displacement.
