One of the main purposes of subordination of the gas pipeline system of the Azeriqaz Production Association of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) is to increase the economic viability of gas sales in the country, the source in SOCAR told Trend.
Azeriqaz currently conducts distribution and sale of gas in Azerbaijan.
According to the source, gas-main pipelines of the Production Association required additional costs for their maintenance and operation. Operations of Azeriqaz will now be mainly oriented on gasification of the country and gas sales.
"The main goal of introduction of structural changes is to improve the economic performance of the association," the source said.
Earlier, according to SOCAR's decision on the improvement of the structure of Azeriqaz production association, gas mains in Azerbaijan were subordinated to SOCAR Gas Export Department.
Accordingly, all regional gas mains will remain under control of Azeriqaz.
SOCAR includes the production association Azneft (companies producing oil and gas on land and sea) and Production Association Azerkimya (chemical industry), and the Azeriqaz production association (gas distribution).
In addition, there are numerous processing and service enterprises and institutions engaged in geophysical and drilling operations within the State Oil Company.
