On August 16, 2019, Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan signed an agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on providing advisory services on a project to build a number of photovoltaic stations with a total capacity of up to 1000 MW within a public-private partnership (PPP), Trend reports with referring to the press service of the ministry.
The estimated cost of the project is $800 million. The Sherabad district of Surkhandarya region was chosen as the location for the implementation of the first pilot project for the construction of a photovoltaic station with a capacity of at least 100 MW.
ADB will act as a consultant, organize the preparation of the Project Concept, financial model, design assessment document (feasibility study) and power purchase agreement and will provide a number of other services.
Within the project, a conference will also be organized among investors and an international tender will be announced for the construction contractor.
This project will be implemented by the Ministry of Energy with the assistance and coordination of ADB, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, and the national PPP Development Agency.
The start of the project is planned in 2021.
The tasks for reforming the energy sector are set up by a decree of the President of Uzbekistan dated March 27, 2019.
Based on it, international financial institutions provide technical and financial assistance in the implementation of relevant projects, especially in terms of attracting private investment, including through the PPP mechanism.
