Iran's small-scale power plants generated more than 1,700 gigawatt-hours of electricity during the first three months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through June 21, 2021), which is a new record, an official of the Electric Holding Company of Generation, Transmission & Distribution (TAVANIR) Ehsan Zabihzadeh said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Energy of Iran.
The official emphasized that electricity generation at small-scale power plants increased by 9.5 percent in the 3 months, compared to the same period last Iranian year.
“Given the ongoing process of development and construction of power plants, it can be predicted that electricity generation of these power plants in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022) will increase by 65 percent compared to last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021),” he added.
Zabihzadeh noted that the electricity generation capacity of small-scale power plants in Iran is currently more than 1,000 megawatt-hours.
The official also said that the small-scale power plants accounted for 2 percent of total electricity generation in Iran over the last Iranian year. This figure is expected to increase to 2.5 percent this year with the construction of new power plants.
At present, Iran's electricity generation potential is 86,000 megawatt-hours.
