One of the strategies of the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran (PMO) is to establish a shipping line with Kazakhstan for cargo transportation different types of Ro-Ro ships (Roll-On Roll-Off ships), Director General for Logistics and Multimodal Transport at PMO Khosro Saraee said, Trend reports citing the organization.
He made the remark during a meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Transport Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan Kayriden Nurkenov, which was held via videoconference.
Saraee noted that Iran is ready to invest in the establishment of the joint shipping line and added that Iran will soon increase the number of Ro-Ro ships in the Caspian Sea.
According to him, all Iranian ports in the south of the Caspian Sea have facilities for the reception of Ro-Ro ships and container operations.
In turn, the Kazakh official stressed that Kazakhstan plans to purchase two Ro-Ro ships within the next two years under the country’s development program.
Nurkenov added that any investment plans to build infrastructure for this shipping line and container operations in the ports of Aktau and Kuryk in Kazakhstan will be supported.
The sides agreed to establish a joint working group to prepare proposals for the establishment of a shipping line between the ports of Aktau and Kuryk in Kazakhstan and the ports in northern Iran.
