BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 17. UNESCO has supported Kyrgyzstan in developing a digital platform aimed at preserving and promoting the country's intangible cultural heritage, a representative of UNESCO told Trend.
"A recent example of UNESCO's support for living heritage in the country is through the 'Digital journey to intangible cultural heritage of Kyrgyzstan' project from 2023–2025," UNESCO said.
According to the UNESCO representative, the project developed a comprehensive digital platform to address the lack of knowledge, information, awareness and educational materials on intangible cultural heritage in Kyrgyzstan.
In addition, the project aims to increase the representation of cultural heritage of ethnic minorities living in Kyrgyzstan and the need to modernize the mechanism for registering living heritage expressions of the State's National Inventory.
Meanwhile, cooperation between UNESCO and Kyrgyzstan has intensified in recent years as the country continues to implement international recommendations on the protection of its World Heritage sites.
The collaboration has included reactive monitoring and advisory missions, technical consultations, and capacity-building activities designed to strengthen site management, improve conservation practices, and support the long-term preservation of Kyrgyzstan's cultural and natural heritage in line with UNESCO standards.
